Snavely Forest Products announced Bryan Craig has been promoted to general manager of the Snavely Forest Denver Operation. 

Craig has been with Snavely since 2002. His responsibilities have included operations manager and assistant general manager. He brings more than 22 years of both retail and wholesale experience in the building products industry. 

Craig is replacing Mark Spargo who has since assumed the responsibilities as a National Accounts Manager.

Fastenal CEO Willard Oberton has officially tendered his resignation to the company's board of directors, which has already named a successor in president Leland Hein Jr.

Hein has been with the company since 1985 and has held various sales and managerial roles, including general manager, district manager, regional VP and EVP sales. He has been serving as president since July 2012.

Oberton gave his notice on Nov. 3, stating that he plans to resign, effective Dec. 31, 2014. Hein will step into his new role on Jan. 1.

The International Housewares Association, the Rosemont, Illinois-based trade group for the housewares industry, announced that Dave Elliott, general manager, KitchenAid Global Small Appliances has been elected IHA chairman of the board.

Elliott joined Whirlpool Corp. in February 2009. Whirlpool is the parent company of KitchenAid and the largest manufacturer of major and small appliances in the world. Before joining Whirlpool, he worked for Jarden Corp. from 1997 to 2009, where he was VP of global marketing with responsibility for personal comfort and wellness products.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake rolled through the Napa, Sonoma and Solano Counties of California Aug. 24, but the Boral ProStone/Cultured Stone by Boral facilities in Napa are reporting "no harm done."

The plant survived the earthquake with no structural damage or interruptions, nor were there any injuries to employees or their family members, though the region as a whole suffered extensive damage.

Parr Lumber named Jon Friesen as the new manager of the company’s Tacoma, Washington, location.

Friesen most recently served as the manager of Parr’s Portland location on MLK Blvd. and prior to that as the assistant manager at Parr’s West Linn facility.

The appointment is effective Sept. 2. 

Before joining the Parr team, Friesen worked for BMC for 15 years and served as the lumber division manager of BMC’s Tacoma location and the Vancouver general manager.

• Regional VP Mark Corso joined Cedar Creek from Roberts & Dybdahl, where he spent the last 33 years in a number of executive roles. Corso began his career at GP.

A seasoned professional with a long tenure of success in building products, Orr comes to Russin having spent the past 25 years with Moulding & Millwork, most recently serving as group general manager heading up all sales and operations for the company in the northeast.

PPG Industries, the Pittsburgh-based coatings company, has promoted Kevin McDonald to the role of VP fiber glass.

Beginning March 1, McDonald will transition from his current role as PPG general manager, reinforcements and leader for fiber glass in the Americas and EMEA. He will succeed Thomas Kerr, who is retiring effective the same day.

Snavely Forest Products -- Dallas has expanded its product offerings to include TimberTech's full decking and railing collection, which it will distribute statewide in Texas in addition to a complete line of AZEK products.

"We only invest in high-quality products," said general manager Dave Adams. "TimberTech decking and railing is the option we are produ to carry and provide to our customers in Texas."

The company cites a robust housing recovery in Texas and increased demand for new products in the building materials industry.

The West Coast Lumber & Building Material Association (WCLBMA) has elected officers and directors for 2014, including Mark Ganahl as president. 

Ganahl is VP of Ganahl Lumber and general manager of the company’s Anaheim, Calif., location. Ganahl Lumber is the state’s oldest lumberyard, with a history that dates back to 1884. Today Ganahl Lumber has nine locations in Southern California.

Honeywell has announced that its full line of Wi-Fi thermostats will enable homeowners to connect with their utility and receive incentives for cutting down on electricity use. 

"The same technology people purchase today to lower their heating bills can pay extra dividends in the summer months," said Tony Uttley, general manager of Home Comfort and Energy Systems at Honeywell. "Honeywell can easily link homeowners to these additional savings."

The International Housewares Association (IHA) has elected Dave Elliott to a second three-year term on its board of directors, as well as appointed him treasurer of the board.

Elliott, who will serve a one-year term as treasurer from Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014, is currently general manager of small appliances at KitchenAid.

He joined Whirlpool Corp., the parent company of KitchenAid, in 2009. Previously, he worked for Jarden Corp. for 12 years as VP global marketing.

Guadalupe Lumber in San Antonio has a reputation for its eclectic product mix. “Jackets, boots and all sorts of stuff,” said Kyle Grothues, fourth-generation general manager of the three-store hardware home center retailer. “We ended up with a lot of statues of the Virgin Mary one year.”

And the results? “We sold all of them.”

Las Vegas — Ray Griffith kicked off the Golden Hammer retail awards presentation with a joke: "Does everyone have an hour? I have a long speech." He got an even bigger laugh when he called out a moderator for his use of the word "entertainment" to describe the panel discussion.

But the concepts that Griffith and the other retail honorees shared during the 29th Golden Hammer Awards ceremony held here during the National Hardware Show contained a serious tone as hardware stores appear to be poised to pounce on a swelling industry recovery.

Buckley spent his career in building products and distribution, most recently with Weyerhauser, where he held the position of general manager of the Eastern Division since 2006.
