Do it Best Corp. has named Gary Furst its VP human resources, general counsel and corporate assistant secretary, effective immediately.

As VP human resources, Furst will oversee all HR programs for Do it Best Corp., including compensation, benefits, employee recruitment, training and development. In addition, as general counsel, he will be responsible for management of all internal and external legal matters pertaining to Do it Best Corp.

Universal Forest Products has named David Tutas as general counsel of the corporation. He succeeds Matthew Missad, who was appointed CEO earlier this year.

Tutas joined Universal as an attorney in 2003. In 2007, he was named director of the legal department at Universal. Before he joined the company, Tutas was an attorney with the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based firm of Nantz, Litowich, Smith & Girard.

A judge in Eau Claire County Court has awarded Dawn Sands, the former general counsel for Menards’ home improvement chain, $600,000 in lost wages and benefits, according to an article in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Lowe’s Cos. promoted M. Lee Reeves to senior VP, deputy general counsel and assistant secretary. Reeves will continue to report to Gaither M. Keener, executive VP, general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer.

In his new role, Reeves’ responsibilities include leading the corporate transactions, intellectual property and information technology legal teams.

Central Garden & Pet Co. has named George Yuhas as its new general counsel, effective immediately. Yuhas will report to William Brown, Central's chairman and CEO. 

Yuhas has been a partner specializing in litigation at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP for many years. 

"George represents an important addition to our senior management team," said Brown. "His judgment, team orientation and legal expertise will help us manage our business in a prudent and effective way. I look forward to working with him closely."
