A request by a Bartlesville, Okla., businessman for a $100,000 incentive to build a new Ace Hardware store in town will be heard by the Bartlesville City Council Monday, according to a report in the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise. 

The hearing follows previous discussions by the local businessman, Jeff Potter, and the Bartlesville Development Corp. board of directors.

A Phoenix businessman who sold two stores six years ago has opened Carl’s Ace Hardware Store, according to the Peoria (Ariz.) Times. 

The businessman, Steve Herrgesell, sold Ace Hardware Stores in Tempe and south Phoenix about six years ago. He also co-founded Peter Piper Pizza. He opened the new store, at 75th Ave. and Cactus Road with his son Carl and daughter in law, Faith.

The 28th Golden Hammer Awards saw Bob Taylor enter the Home Channel Hall of Fame and Westminster, Mass.-based Aubuchon Hardware take home the Retailer of the Year award.

Single-store operator McDaniel’s Do-It Center of Snohomish, Wash., was also recognized as the Golden Hammer “Tools of the Trade” honoree.

A True Value store in Walnut, Calif., a suburb of eastern Los Angeles, has begun its liquidation sale and will close within the next 90 days, according to an article in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Walnut True Value Hardware has been operated by Stuart Tielens, a 64-year-old businessman who eventually succumbed to his customers’ lack of spending from the poor economy and competition from a Home Depot that moved in two years ago.

A Fairview Heights, Ill., businessman, protesting what he described as the city's excessive development regulations and lack of financial help, decided to make a statement by visiting the local Lowe’s and asking for the five brightest colors the store had in stock, according to an article in the Belleville News Democrat.

Founded in 1970 by an Ontario businessman, Weed Man branched into franchising in 1976. Each operation, which provides complete lawn care service (including fertilization, weed, insect and disease management, as well as aeration and seeding), is locally owned ad operated.
