Dick Jackson, president and CEO of Pacific Wood Preserving Companies, died after a long battle with cancer, according to the Lumber Association of California and Nevada (LACN) newsletter.

Sunrise Decking, a pressure-treated lumber product by Sunbelt Forest Products, is now available through lumber dealers, home centers and fence contractors across Florida, the Southeast and into the Caribbean Basin.

Treated with Ecolife, a non-metallic wood preservative and wood made by Viance, the product can be purchased in 10-ft., 12-ft. and 16-ft. lengths throughout Florida exclusively at 84 Lumber store locations.

The Empire Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of New Zealand-based Tenon LTD, has been selected as the exclusive distribution partner for Eastman Chemical Company’s new Perennial Wood decking product into Lowe’s stores.

Eastman is a Fortune 500 company with more than 80 years of history in acetylating wood pulp, according to the announcement. In 2010, 13% of Eastman’s total revenues were derived from sales of raw materials to the building and construction industry. 

Demand for wood-plastic composite and plastic lumber, used in decking, railing, trim and other building materials, is projected to rise 13% per year until 2015, according to a report from The Freedonia Group.

Abbeville, Ala.-based Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, the nation’s leading producer of pressure treated pine lumber, acquired the assets of the Rocky Top Building Products companies. 

With the asset acquisition of Rocky Top and other wholly owned subsidiaries of Rocky Mount, Va.-based The Franklin Group, Inc., Great Southern Wood Preserving’s distribution coverage now stretches from the Florida Keys to Texas to Canada including all or parts of 27 states and the District of Columbia.

Log and lumber exports from Washington, Oregon, northern California, and Alaska in the first three quarters of 2011 already surpass the total exports of 2010 according to the U.S. Forest Service's Pacific Northwest (PNW) Research Station.

Georgia-Pacific Wood Products has announced that it will make “strategic changes” to its engineered lumber division to facilitate more direct involvement with its customer base and expand its services.

BlueLinx Holdings, the Atlanta-based distributor of building products, has announced plans to launch a complete line of privately branded engineered lumber products. The company currently is finalizing agreements with suppliers, and anticipates that the new line will be available beginning Feb. 13, 2012. The Engineered Lumber Purchase Agreement with Georgia-Pacific Wood Products, under which BlueLinx currently distributes engineered lumber, will expire in accordance with its terms on Feb. 12, 2012.
