Georgia-Pacific Wood Products and Sherwood Lumber Co. have announced a new distribution agreement involving GP's full line of engineered wood products (EWP). The two companies have finalized terms that will provide for Sherwood Lumber to supply its dealers with a complete line of Georgia-Pacific engineered wood products, including Wood I Beam joists, GP Lam laminated veneer lumber (LVL), FiberStrong rim board and laminated beams.

Treated with Ecolife, a non-metallic wood preservative and wood made by Viance, the product can be purchased in 10-ft., 12-ft. and 16-ft. lengths throughout Florida exclusively at 84 Lumber store locations.

The Empire Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of New Zealand-based Tenon LTD, has been selected as the exclusive distribution partner for Eastman Chemical Company’s new Perennial Wood decking product into Lowe’s stores.

Eastman is a Fortune 500 company with more than 80 years of history in acetylating wood pulp, according to the announcement. In 2010, 13% of Eastman’s total revenues were derived from sales of raw materials to the building and construction industry.

With the asset acquisition of Rocky Top and other wholly owned subsidiaries of Rocky Mount, Va.-based The Franklin Group, Inc., Great Southern Wood Preserving’s distribution coverage now stretches from the Florida Keys to Texas to Canada including all or parts of 27 states and the District of Columbia.

BlueLinx Holdings, the Atlanta-based distributor of building products, has announced plans to launch a complete line of privately branded engineered lumber products. The company currently is finalizing agreements with suppliers, and anticipates that the new line will be available beginning Feb. 13, 2012. The Engineered Lumber Purchase Agreement with Georgia-Pacific Wood Products, under which BlueLinx currently distributes engineered lumber, will expire in accordance with its terms on Feb. 12, 2012.

A subsidiary of Great Southern Wood Preserving acquired a wood treating plant in Mansura, La., formerly owned by Elder Wood Preserving.

Great Southern CEO Jimmy Rane said the two companies have similar cultures. "Our involvement will simply enable that plant to bring more products and more resources to its customers than ever before while allowing us to expand our footprint," he said. 

Elder Wood has been an industry leader for more than 30 years, he added.
