WOLF announced it will move its New England distribution hub from its current location in Worcester, Massachusetts, to a 100,000-sq.-ft. site in Northborough. The move to a larger distribution center will boost WOLF’s ability to serve kitchen and bath and building products to dealers in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and upstate New York, the company said.

WOLF took full occupancy of the new site on Sept. 22 and will close its current facility, which the company has outgrown since it opened in January 2011.

Four new units expanded the ABC Supply building products footprint around the country, including the company’s first location in Vermont. 

Beloit, Wisconsin-based ABC Supply opened branches in Omaha, Nebraska; Nampa, Idaho; North Clarendon, Vermont; and Charleston, West Virginia.

Granite Gold’s nationwide distribution expanded with the addition of Shaw’s Supermarkets in the Northeast and Stater Bros. Markets in Southern California.

Shaw’s Supermarkets, which has more than 120 stores throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, now carries Granite Gold Daily Cleaner and Granite Gold Polish.

Now in its third year, HCN's annual list of high performers recognizes hardware stores -- one from each state -- that are outstanding in their field. Meanwhile, HCN Daily will work its way across the country with mini profiles, continuing this week with Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Tractor Supply Co. opened a store in Morrisville, Vt., marking the company's seventh store in the state of Vermont. 

The store measures a little more than 19,000 sq. ft. and employs about 15 full- and part-time employees, according to a report in StoweToday.com.

The store will host an "Out Here with the Animals Day" on Sept. 29, offering advice and information regarding pet food, foraging, flock management and other areas.

Voters in 38 states will consider 174 statewide ballot measures on Nov. 6, 2012, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). These proposals are wide-ranging, with a number of them having potential workplace implications.

Questions appear on the ballots in more than one state concerning:

• Medical marijuana use; • Legalization of marijuana; and • Same-sex marriage.

Vergennes, Vt.-based DR Power Equipment has introduced two new chipper/shredder models designed for homeowners.

The products are described as “a single-machine solution to tough yard debris and waste.”

The company’s 11.50 Premier and 14.50 Pro model Chipper/Shredders will shred prunings, leaves and garden leftovers into rich, organic mulch, and also chip larger branches into landscaping woodchips for paths and ornamental flower beds.

LBM dealers trying to deliver building materials into New York are wondering if they haven’t become a new source of state revenue, given the stepped-up enforcement of linkage laws by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Although the issue is being addressed in the New York State legislature by a bill brought forth by the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association (NRLA), lumberyard delivery drivers are playing cat and mouse with state troopers while their bosses are fighting $1,000 citations in court.

The story reminded me of my Uncle Jerry, proprietor of an independent store stuffed with hardware SKUs and located in South Newfane, Vt.

Getting rid of mobile homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Irene is a costly impediment for many low-income households wanting to start over. But a public-private partnership spearheaded by Vermont state officials got a $25,000 infusion from Aubuchon Hardware, a northeastern chain of 130-plus hardware stores.

Marcus Moran Jr., Aubuchon president and CEO, presented the donation to Lt. Governor Scott and Lawrence Miller, Secretary of Commerce and Community Development, in a ceremony on Oct. 3. Aubuchon has 25 stores located in Vermont, according to the company’s website.
