Two shoplifting suspects at a Salem, N.H. Home Depot have been accused of stealing a vanity  full of tools and other merchandise on Sept. 5, according to an article in the Eagle-Tribune.

According to police, the two suspects choose a vanity off the shelf and then walked around the store filling it with $2,000 worth of tools and other merchandise. The pair then went to a self-checkout register, scanned a few of the items, and left the store.

Police Chief William Bilinski had just purchased some brown outdoor carpet on July 24 when he noticed something suspicious going on in the parking lot of Lowe’s, according to a story in the Times-Tribune of Scranton, Pa. Four people were sitting in a vehicle just outside the store; after they moved the vehicle in front of the garden center, two of the occupants went inside.

A San Diego man is facing felony changes for purchasing copper wire at Home Depot and Lowe’s stores with counterfeit barcodes and then reselling it to recycling centers for a hefty profit, according to an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Menards is planning to build a 300,000-sq.-ft. project in Richfield, a suburb of Minneapolis, to replace an existing unit, according to an article in the Star-Tribune.

The new two-story building, along with a lumberyard, garden center and warehouse, would require the demolition of the current store, along with a vacant restaurant called Jung Bo.

KraftMaid, the industry’s largest cabinet manufacturer, has laid off 175 hourly workers at factories in Orwell and Middlefield, Ohio, according to an article in the Warren Tribune Chronicle.

A spokeswoman for parent company Masco told the newspaper that, "Prolonged economic conditions have severely impacted the housing market, whether new construction or remodeling. The current climate remains challenging."

According to an article in the Grand Haven (Mich.) Tribune, a dollar store in Ferrysburg recently expanded into a full-blown hardware store.

The new 12,000-sq.-ft. store is called North Bank Hardware, affiliated with Do it Best. It is co-owned by John Leppink and Rich Cole. It used to be the Grand Dollar store.

A new municipal ordinance in El Cajon, a city just east of San Diego, has put restrictions on Home Depot, Sears, Walmart, and other retailers that allow shopping carts in their parking lots, according to an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Colorado’s oldest Ace dealer, Offen Ace Hardware in Greeley, features all the wares of a typical hardware store -- from nuts and bolts to friendly service -- but also offers customers free coffee and a chance to pet Miss Kitty, according to the Greeley Tribune.

The Greeley store offers customers hard-to-find parts for their older homes.
