Sherwin-Williams released its full-year guidance for the fiscal year, but its estimates fell below those of Wall Street expectations, causing shares to fall shortly following the news.

The company also pointed out that the guidance takes into account ongoing costs related to its acquisition of Comex, as well as the new HGTV paint partnership with Lowe's. 

The paint giant placed 2014 sales at a 9% year-over-year growth rate -- or $11.1 billion.

The coating competition will heat up in March as Lowe’s rolls out HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams.

The HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams product line will feature what both companies describe as “a new and improved interior and exterior paint program.” The line will be available at both Sherwin-Williams' company stores and Lowe's stores nationwide, as well as exclusive line extensions available at Lowe's.

Sherwin-Williams has announced its partnership with the National Council of La Raza and six of its U.S. affiliates.

The organizations, which were selected by the NCLR, will each receive a $1,000 Sherwin-Williams gift card to go toward freshening up their look. These include youth centers, public art murals, housing units, senior living facilities and various other spaces in Hispanic communities.

The final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for PPG Industries in its acquisition of Mexican architectural and industrial coatings company Consorcio Comex, S.A. de C.V. ("Comex").

Mexico's Federal Economic Competition Commission has approved the deal following PPG's June 30 announcement that it had agreed to take on the company for $2.3 billion.

Sherwin-Williams reported a 12.1% sales increase and a corresponding boost in income for the second quarter.

The company took in net sales of $3.04 billion over the three months ended June 30, up from $2.71 billion in the second quarter of 2013.

The increase was largely buoyed by a 17.2% increase in net sales for the Paint Stores Group, due in large part to higher architectural paint sales volume.

This translated to a 13.3% boost in net income: $291.45 million in 2014, compared with $257.29 million in 2013.

The Pittsburgh-based paint and coatings giant PPG agreed to acquire Consorcio Comex, an architectural and industrial coatings company with headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico.

The transaction is valued at $2.3 billion.

To kick off National Painting Week, Sherwin-Williams is releasing the findings of its National Home Design and Color Survey, which found that painting tops the list of planned home improvement projects for U.S. homeowners.

The vast majority of those surveyed -- 70% -- plan to undertake some kind of house-related project in the next six months, according to Sherwin-Williams.

Of those planning projects, 42% plan to paint, 39% intend to landscape and 30% are simply thinking about redecorating.

A long, drawn-out acquisition affair is over, and not with a happy ending for its parties.

After months of regulatory delays, Sherwin-Williams has terminated its bid for Comex Mexico, effective immediately.

Initially dated Sept. 16, 2013, the amended and restated stock purchase agreement was officially terminated by Sherwin-Williams after it sent a notice to the sellers on April 3. The agreement had stipulated that either party may terminate the deal in the event that the closing of the acquisition did not occur on or prior to March 31, 2014.

Sherwin-Williams is launching an online Spanish-language platform, SWLatino.com, focusing on Hispanic homeowners, contractors and designers. Sherwin-Williams will feature tips, how-to articles and color information from leading Hispanic bloggers and Sherwin-Williams color experts.

The new site, integrated with Sherwin-Williams Facebook and Twitter accounts, will connect Latino paint and color professionals, homeowners and designers with Spanish-language content.
