Lumber Liquidators has added a ninth member to its board of directors. Effective April 1, Nancy Taylor has been appointed as a Class III director.

Lumber Liquidators posted a strong earnings report Wednesday for the fourth quarter and full year ended Dec. 31, 2013. 

Net sales for the three-month period were $258.4 million, up 22.7% from 2012. For the full year, sales came in at $1.0 billion, a nearly 23% improvement in year-ago terms.

Fourth-quarter net income weighed in at $20.8 million, up considerably from last year's $13.8 million. For 2013 as a whole, Lumber Liquidators pulled in $77.4 million, an increase of 64.4%.

Toano, Va.-based Lumber Liquidators, the nation's largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring, appointed Sandra C. Whitehouse as senior VP and chief human resources officer.   

Whitehouse, who is expected to begin her new role later this month, will oversee the development and operation of the company's human resources functions, and will report directly to CEO Robert Lynch.

Lumber Liquidators says it has about 10% to 11% of the flooring market in its wood categories — hardwoods and laminates — and a respectable 1% of all flooring. The company wants more, and one tried-and-true strategy is to broaden the assortment along with the product mix.

That includes tools.

“We are bringing in all the [tools] that you need to complete your project,” said president and CEO Robert Lynch during a Goldman Sachs investor conference in September.

Toano, Va.-based Lumber Liquidators reported second-quarter sales of $210.3 million, up 19.9% from the same quarter a year ago. 

Comparable-store sales increased 12.4% for the quarter, as net income increased to $12.2 million, up from $5.3 million in the year-ago quarter.

Flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators has announced that Robert Lynch, its current president and chief operating officer, will succeed current CEO Jeffrey Griffiths on Jan. 1, 2012. As part of the company’s succession plan, Griffiths will also retire from the board of directors at the same time.

He will oversee the company's merchandising, supply chain and store operations, including the respective senior VPs of these areas. Lynch, who starts his new position on Jan. 17, 2011, will report directly to CEO Jeffrey Griffiths.
