PulteGroup reported net income of $2.3 billion for its third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with prior-year net income of $117 million.

Home sale revenues for the third quarter increased 21% from the prior year to $1.5 billion. Higher revenues for the period were driven by an 11% increase in average selling price to $310,000.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup reported third-quarter net income of $117 million, compared with a net loss of $129 million in the year-ago period.

Revenue from home sales in the third quarter ended Sept. 30 increased 12% from the prior year to $1.2 billion. Higher revenue for the period was driven by a 6% increase in average selling price to $279,000, combined with a 5% increase in closings to 4,418 homes.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup posted second-quarter net income of $42.4 million, compared with a net loss of $55.4 million in the year-ago period.

Total revenue from the second quarter ended June 30 totaled $1.07 billion, up 15% from $927.21 million in the second quarter of 2011. Higher revenue for the period was driven by an 8% increase in average selling price to $268,000, combined with a 5% increase in closings to 3,816 homes.

A majority of renters who have been considering a home purchase intend to do so within the next two years, according to a survey conducted by home builder PulteGroup.

Among the top reasons renters indicated they have increased their interest in buying a home include:

• They like being able to call themselves homeowners (49%); • They view it as a good financial investment (44%); and • They need more space for their family/kids (36%).

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup reported a net loss of $12 million for the first quarter ended March 31, compared with a net loss of $40 million in the prior-year quarter. Reported net loss includes $6 million of land-related charges, which were offset by $6 million of land-sale gains.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup has completed the sale of land approved for about 1,500 residences in Broomfield, Colo., to Wheelock Street Capital, a private real estate investment firm.

The transaction is for the remaining developed lots and undeveloped land in Anthem, Colo., a 1,700-acre master planned community in the northwest Denver metro area. The master plan includes Anthem Ranch and Anthem Highlands communities.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup posted a third-quarter net loss of $129 million, compared with a 2010 third-quarter net loss of $995 million.

Revenues from home sales totaled $1.1 billion in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, an increase of 7% from prior-year revenue of $1 billion. The company cited a 9% increase in unit closing volumes to 4,198 homes, partially offset by a 1% decrease in the company's average selling price to $262,000 for the higher revenues.

PulteGroup has named Kevin Meuth as the new division president for its Houston operations, where he will oversee the 27 communities and about 100 employees throughout the Greater Houston area.

Meuth has 22 years of diversified home-building experience, all in the Houston market. Previously, he served as division president at Meritage Homes for the past five years.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup has announced that Pulte Mortgage president and CEO Debra Still was named chairman-elect of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) at its 98th Annual Convention & Expo in Chicago this week. She currently serves as vice chairman of the MBA and will become chairman of the 2012-2013 MBA board.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup has appointed Robert "Bob" O'Shaughnessy as executive VP and chief financial officer, effective May 31. He will be responsible for the corporate accounting, treasury, tax, investor relations, audit, information technology and asset management functions, including the mortgage and title company. O'Shaughnessy will report directly to Richard J. Dugas Jr., chairman, president and CEO.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based home builder PulteGroup reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $165 million, compared with a net loss of $117 million in the prior-year quarter. The loss for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010, includes $196 million in land-related charges and costs associated with organizational restructuring, debt pay-down and other financing amendments.

Consolidated revenue for the fourth quarter totaled $1.2 billion, down 29% from prior-year revenue of $1.7 billion.
