The latest Living Spaces home furnishings store in Phoenix features a collaboration between the California-based retailer and home improvement TV star Jeff Lewis.

As Living Spaces’ Creative Director, Lewis’ designs and curated rooms can be viewed in the store’s “Styled by Jeff Lewis” gallery. Lewis hosts Bravo’s Flipping Out and Interior Therapy. 

Located off the 10 freeway at the 67th Ave. exit in Phoenix, the Living Spaces Phoenix showroom is the company’s second location in Arizona.

MoistureShield, the Springdale, Ark.-based composite decking manufacturer, has expanded its presence in the Sunbelt and West Coast regions by adding 12 new distribution locations to its network.

Among the new distributors are Huttig Building Products in Phoenix, Nashville, and Jackson, Miss.; BlueLinx in Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville, Fla.; Dixie Plywood and Lumber Company in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas; Universal Forest Products in Thornton and Riverside, Calif.; and Intermountain Supply in Spokane, Wash.

Intech Equipment & Supply, a Phoenix-based roofing and insulation equipment provider, has hired Dennis Alter as southeast technical service manager.

Alter will be based in the company's Madison, Ga. location and will support its five full service branches in California, Texas, Arizona, Missouri and Arkansas, as well as coverage for some other southeastern states.

The BidClerk Construction Index (BCI) registered an 11.3% year-over-year increase in construction activity for major-metro regions in the Southwest U.S.

There was a vast disparity in the rate of progress depending on the type of construction, however; the uptick rides entirely on the shoulders of the public sector. Private construction was down 6.3%, while public construction increased 23.9%.

Ramirez has 10 years of experience at Southwest Fastener. Within the company, he has worked his way up the ranks from warehouse team member to assistant warehouse manager, and eventually becoming the warehouse manager at Southwest Fastener.

Phoenix-based Leslie’s Poolmart, the nation's leading retailer of swimming pool supplies and related products, opened a store in Herndon, Va. The store will celebrate its grand opening May 31 to June 3, with specials and festivities throughout the weekend,

In total, Leslie's opened 48 new stores this year, between March and May. With these new stores and its recent acquisition of 24 Warehouse Pool Supply stores in the Houston area, Leslie's brings its total store count to more than 800 stores nationwide.

It stands to reason: The pool of consumers willing to invest in home improvement projects dramatically swells when home prices are increasing. Under those conditions, not only does a new kitchen look nice, it promises a nice ROI.

That's why the latest S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices, released late March, was hailed by the industry as a positive sign. Not only did two widely watched indices of home prices climb to the highest marks since the burst of the housing bubble, but all 20 cities on the list posted year-over-year gains — eight of them in the double digits.

The retailer says it appeals to both the serious and casual gardener with a broad selection of premium gardening products and knowledgeable staff.

A Phoenix businessman who sold two stores six years ago has opened Carl’s Ace Hardware Store, according to the Peoria (Ariz.) Times. 

The businessman, Steve Herrgesell, sold Ace Hardware Stores in Tempe and south Phoenix about six years ago. He also co-founded Peter Piper Pizza. He opened the new store, at 75th Ave. and Cactus Road with his son Carl and daughter in law, Faith.

Few stances have riled employers this summer more than the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) position that employee handbooks with language about at-will employment may violate the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). This position, which Kent Jones, an attorney with Nixon Peabody in San Francisco, characterized in an interview with SHRM Online as “a terrible stretch,” applies to all employers -- unionized or not.

The NLRB floated this theory in a pair of cases earlier this year at the Phoenix regional office.

The S&P/Case-Shiller Index, a leading indicator of U.S. housing prices, showed annual declines of 3.6% and 3.5% for the 10- and 20-city composites, respectively, for February 2012. This is a new low for February, which has not seen such levels since 2002. But the decline was less steep than in previous months, when it recorded a 3.9% drop in January and a 4.1% drop in December in year-over-year figures.
