New York City-based General Tools & Instruments is beginning a new chapter in its colorful (black and yellow) history.

The company was acquired by New York City-based investment firm Highroad Capital Partners in February. Terms of the deal were not released. But in an interview with HCN at the National Hardware Show, principals from Highroad Capital said they liked what they saw in the tool company, and vice versa.

Representing the marketing chops of the home improvement industry, Briggs & Stratton Corporation earned high marks for its Mower Mouth social media contest at this year's Shorty Industry Awards on April 7 in New York City.

The contest earned Briggs & Stratton the spot for Best Facebook Contest, which it shared with ESPN's SportsCenter after beating a third finalist, ABC Family.

New London, N.C.-based Fiberon, a manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, railing and fencing products, hired Dustin Ferriso as territory manager.

Ferriso will serve Fiberon’s distributor and dealer customers on the 118-mile-long territory of Long Island, N.Y., including the five boroughs of New York City. He will work out of an office based in Lindenhurst, N.Y.

New York City-based home furnishings retailer Gracious Home named Rob Morrison to the post of chief operating officer.

The former Lumber Liquidators executive begins his new role on Jan. 6.

At Lumber Liquidators, Morrison was senior VP of stores and operations, a position he held since January 2006. He was also president of Artistic Tile from 2004 to 2005.

In a cleaning crusade that helped promote the new Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle, a 25-person "Mr. Clean Team" worked alongside the New York City Department of Sanitation and the Times Square Alliance on Jan. 1 to give the area a thorough scrubdown following the massive New Year's celebration.

New York City-based General Tools & Instruments’ Predator line of Thermal Imaging Cameras is expanding to include nine extended temperature range models. General’s GTi10, GTi20 and GTi50 are now available in models with temperature measurement ranges up to 600 degrees Celcius, 1,000 degrees Celcius, and 1,500 degrees Celcius.

Jenn-Air opened up shop at the Tasting Table test kitchen in New York City's SoHo neighborhood to show off its versatile new Steam Oven. Industry professionals filed in to the after-hours event on Tues. to sample the foodie fare prepared using various combinations of steam and convection.

Tasting Table chefs whipped up roasted chicken, tender cuts of meat, fish and crisped artichokes using the oven, as well as salads, puddings, pâtés and cheese board selections.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation will offer about $2.75 million worth of Home Depot gift cards to Staten Island homeowners recovering from Hurricane Sandy, according to a report in the Staten Island Advance newspaper.

The plan, which is expected to be announced Tuesday at a Staten Island Home Depot, calls for giving out $250 Home Depot gift cards to residents of the New York City borough who live in damaged homes.
