St. Louis-based Huttig Building Products hired Bob Kern Sr. as the new territory manager to cover southern New Jersey from the Huttig Wilkes-Barre branch in Pennsylvania. 

Kern has more than 20 years of experience in the building materials industry. He started his career with Peter Lumber Company in Pleasantville, New Jersey, where he was the operations manager for many years. Most recently, Kern was territory manager with Milliken Millwork.

After announcing its decision in March to move its Manhattan headquarters to Wayne, New Jersey, Haier America has officially opened the doors at its new 56,000-sq.-ft. facility.

"Haier America is committed to become a brand-name presence in the U.S. and as we realize new growth and our repositioning in this market, the new headquarters will allow us to accommodate that expansion," said president and CEO Adrian Micu.

TOTO, the $5.1 billion plumbing manufacturer, announced today that the company is increasing its market reach in the Northeast region of the United States by entering into a distribution agreement with Blackman Plumbing Supply.

The new deal, effective immediately, brings TOTO's full line of residential and commercial fttings and fixtures to all of Blackman's 19 branch locations throughout Long Island, New York and New Jersey, and will be on display in all Blackman showrooms.

American Standard Brands is investing in its design team via three new hires at its Piscataway, New Jersey headquarters, where the design studio is located.

Emilie Williams, Greg Reinecker and Gabriela Ravassa have joined the team, reporting to new VP design Jean-Jacques L’Hénaff.

Williams has been brought on board as associate design director for faucets. Previously, she served as senior designer at Ignite USA, working for the Contigo and AVEX housewares brands. She also had roles at Delta Faucet and Masco Corporation.

Red Bank, New Jersey-based Homebuilder Hovnavian enterprises announced this week that it plans to build a community in Summersville, South Carolina. The gated community, Four Seasons at Lakes of Cane Bay, will contain 800 homes.

Newport News, Virginia-based plumbing distributor Ferguson is building a new distribution center in Coxsackie, New York. The company has also leased property for a regional distribution hub in Secaucus, New Jersey.

The two facilities will house almost 1 million sq. ft. of warehouse space and will support Ferguson’s metro New York and Northeast branches, ensuring that customers receive product quickly.

Ferguson is the largest wholesale plumbing distributor in the United States.

Building on its first pneumatic stapler, Arrow Fasteners has introduced a line of pneumatic tools. In addition to the PT50 stapler, the New Jersey-based company's line of pneumatic tools includes a brad nailer, pin nailer and an angled nailer, all for use in profession and DIY projects.

“Each one of these tools offers a quick and easy solution that empowers people to conquer home projects simply and easily,” arrows marketing and product development director, Frank Foster, said.

Piscataway, New Jersey-based American Standard Brands President and CEO Jay Gould was appointed to the board of directors of American Standard’s parent company, LIXIL Corporation.

Gould joined American Standard Brands in January 2012. 

Over the course of the next 18 months, according to the company’s announcement, Gould executed a plan that quadrupled the company's EBITA, grew sales by 10 percent and improved gross margins by 700 basis points.

Maplewood, New Jersey-based paint retailer Ricciardi Brothers is expanding its reach throughout the Philadelphia metro area with the purchase of Old City Paint & Decorating stores. 

The move brings nine Philadelphia-area stores to Ricciardi Brothers, increasing its total footprint to 29 locations. Ricciardi is the largest Benjamin Moore retailer in New Jersey.

Ferguson, the largest wholesale plumbing distributor in the U.S., acquired Factory Direct Appliances.

Factory Direct Appliance is a seven-location appliance dealer with five showrooms in Kansas City, Mo., and two outlying locations in Des Moines, Iowa, and Omaha, Neb. 

The deal marks the second big acquisition of the year for Ferguson, which acquired Karl’s Appliance in February. Karl’s operates six showrooms in northern New Jersey.

Home appliance and consumer electronics manufacturer Haier America has chosen the northern New Jersey town of Wayne as the location of its new 56,000-sq.-ft. U.S. headquarters.

The new facility will be home to 200 employees, training centers, customer service operations and a product showroom where retailers can see new products and concepts. Renovations are currently under way on a building at 1800 Valley Road in Wayne, N.J., that will replace the company’s current office at 1356 Broadway in Manhattan this fall.

Distribution America’s board of directors voted unanimously on the addition. Recently, Distribution America lost Emery-Waterhouse to Ace Hardware.

Faucet Queen’s Helping Hand brand of convenience-oriented home hardware is the market leader in serving the food and drug retail trade, the company said. The Faucet Queen business will continue to operate out of the current Vernon Hills, Ill., facility.

This year’s card -- designed, written and created again by Mahwah, N.J.-based Thermwell Products President Mel Gerstein -- hit mailboxes across the country recently. Many of the usual suspects are featured, along with some new names, like NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
