Montgomery, N.Y.-based Russin Lumber has announced the hire of Lauren Litwin to join its expanding outside sales force.

She will work with the company’s existing dealer base on Massachusetts’ North Shore, in southeastern New Hampshire and throughout the state of Maine.

The Northeastern Retail Lumber Association's Industry Recognition Dinner presented a wealth of leadership, including Lifetime Achievement honoree Joseph Lauto of Great Jones Lumber Corp.

The Wednesday night event, a highlight of the 2012 LBM Expo held at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn., was headlined by the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award winner Joseph F. Lauto, of Great Jones Lumber Corp. in New York City.

Branchburg, N.J.-based LBM distributor Mid-State Lumber announced the culmination of an 18-month plan to expand into New England and announced its New England sales team.

"Today a complete staff is working with a 100% focus of supporting the retail lumber dealers and industry associations in the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire," according to a company statement. The New England team is led by Mike Kelly, New England sales manager.

Boise Cascade’s Building Materials Distribution has moved its Portsmouth, N.H., operation into an expanded distribution facility in Greenland, N.H., the company announced. The new facility, located four miles away, includes 15 acres of yard space, 120,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space and 9,000 sq. ft. of office space.

Jackson Lumber & Millwork has agreed to purchase the assets of the Eastern Lumber Co. in Amesbury, Mass., according to an article in the Newbury Port News.

The 14,000 sq. ft. former Eastern Lumber store, which sits on 3.5 acres, closed last June after 61 years in business.

Manchester, N.H., police are looking for a suspect who pulled an electronic stun gun on a loss prevention officer at a local Home Depot store. The Nov. 9 robbery, reported by WMUR television news, started as a shoplifting incident until the individual -- described as a white man in his 20s, about 5 ft. 9 ins. tall and 160 pounds -- was confronted when leaving the store without paying for two lawnmower engine bands. The merchandise was valued at approximately $150.

Springfield, Mass.-based Rocky’s Ace Hardware, a 33-store New England chain, is marking its 85th anniversary with a celebration culminating Oct. 19 to 24 with special events, including 85-cent sales and $85 gift-card giveaways.

Rocky’s was founded in 1926, by Rocco (Rocky) Falcone Sr., located at the corner of Main and Union Streets in downtown Springfield, Mass., and tradition of service remains in effect today at all Rocky’s stores from Florida to New Hampshire.

The idea of a nationwide chain of green building material outlets has been dreamed about by many eco-minded business people and investors. But it’s never gotten past the one-off stage, where successful green retailers push past their local markets with a successful model that can work in multiple cities across the country. Until now. 


The merger of Ecohaus and Green Depot, announced on Feb. 7, is a West-meets-East event that unites three of the pioneers in the green-building movement. Four, if you count Greenmaker in Chicago, which Green Depot purchased in 2008.

East Coast Tile Group signed an exclusive master distribution arrangement with StonePeak Ceramics in the eastern United States. 

Under terms of the deal, East Coast Tile divisions Best Tile and Tile America will use their infrastructure to supply commercial-grade porcelain tiles to customers and prospects in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

A Home Depot store in Concord, N.H., reopened late on Jan. 24 after a pick-up truck drove through the wall of a local residence and landed in the living room. According to the story in the Union Leader, the driver of the pick-up lost control of the vehicle on a 90-degree curve in the road and plowed completely through the living room wall. The occupants of the home -- a man and his 7-year-old twin daughters -- escaped injury. But they needed to repair the damage enough to get through the night.
