The Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI) has announced its upcoming 2013 HIRI Fall Conference, with this year's theme set to focus on "Changing Home Improvement Attitudes & Behaviors."

Speakers will include Lisa Marquis Jackson, senior VP of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, who will deliver a session on “Clarity on the Housing Recovery.”

She will share insight on the fundamental drivers affecting both new construction and remodeling segments of the housing industry.

John Burns, CEO of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, will be one of five speakers at this year's ProDealer Industry Summit taking place on Oct. 23-25 in Nashville, Tenn.

Burns, based in Irvine, Calif., has more than 20 years of national real estate consulting experience after beginning his career as a CPA. 

He has an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and a B.A. in economics from Stanford University.

Consumers still want bigger houses. Plus, design is more important than price.

Those were two of the somewhat surprising results of a consumer survey shared by the keynote speaker during the 2011 Building and Infrastructure Conference last week.

John Burns, the keynote speaker and president and CEO of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, said 44% of consumers said they would want to buy a bigger house in the future, compared with only 22% who said they want a smaller house.
