GE Appliances has launched a new marketing campaign designed to showcase the company's products in a context that reflects the consumer's changing needs, including a new definition of the kitchen as a living space.

“The national campaign is designed to communicate a key element of our business strategy—one that is obsessed with innovation designed around what the consumer needs,” says Eddie Martin, CMO for GE Appliances. “The work introduces the brand idea of ‘Reimagining Home’ through the lens of our three new products.“

Miele has commissioned a study to back up its claim of having America's quietest dishwasher.

Owens Corning Acoustics Research Center conducted comparative research testing for clean and soiled loads. According to Miele, the results show that its dishwashers maintained their decibel settings throughout washing cycles of all intensities. Also, the tests found that a leading manufacturer touting quiet performance registered a decibel increase of as much as 6 levels for a soiled load, compared to advertised levels.

Consumer Reports has given its No. 1 ranking and “Best Buy” rating to Bosch dishwashers in its most recent edition. Six models of the German-engineered appliances were featured on the magazine’s recommended list.

Bosch entered the dishwasher market in 1991. The Irvine, Calif.-based manufacturer makes an assortment of models that range from an all-plastic tub to a fully featured stainless steel tub.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the General Electric Company (GE) have announced a voluntary recall of 1.3 million Hotpoint, GE and GE Profile, GE Eterna and GE Adora plastic tub dishwashers, manufactured between March 2006 through July 2006, and November 2006 through April 2008.  

Though no injuries have been reported, an electrical failure in certain dishwasher’s can cause a fire hazard. GE has received 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, including seven reports of fires, three of which caused extensive property damage.

ASKO is the latest addition to the company’s one-stop shopping approach to outdoor kitchens, living and entertainment centers.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Bosch home appliances a 2012 Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award. 

Bosch, an Energy Star partner since 2007, will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. For instance, 100% of Bosch major appliances are Energy Star-rated and exceed federal energy standards in dishwashers by up to 97%, the company said. Bosch points to its Bosch 800 Plus dishwasher as the most energy- and water-efficient dishwasher in North America.

What began quite innocently as a pet project turned into a national movement for Anders Lewendal, the Bozeman, Mont., builder who has since gained wide acclaim for constructing a house made entirely from U.S.-made products.

Initially, Lewendal set out to build an “efficient, affordable and environmentally healthy” home for a client whose daughter has cystic fibrosis. In researching the building materials and parts required for the project, Lewendal was struck with this idea: Why not go for all-American parts and materials.

A study on major home appliances by The NPD Group showed overall growth in the category in 2010, with an 11% increase in dollar sales compared to 2009.

Although sales for most appliances did not reach pre-recession levels, dishwashers were one exception, showing a 22% increase in dollar sales over 2009, putting them on level with 2007. 

Full-sized refrigerators and range hoods both experienced double-digit unit and dollar growth, with laundry appliances coming in just under 10% in dollar growth.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Maytag, announced a voluntary recall of certain Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand dishwashers with plastic tubs, which have been reported to pose a fire hazard.

The recall affects approximately 1.7 million units sold between February 2006 through April 2010 for $250 to $900.
