Channel analysis Sales of exterior lighting products jumped 21.3% in the 12 months from March 2011 to February 2012, compared with the same period in the previous year, according to the market size estimate from NPD Group’s Consumer Tracking Service. Consumers lit up their yards to the tune of $789 million during that time, with most of the spend occurring at warehouse home centers.

A group of plaintiffs seeking class action status have filed a lawsuit against decking manufacturer Fiberon over its Portico wood composite line. The lawsuit, filed March 14 in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by Hagens Berman, a Seattle-based firm, claims that the decking has a defect that results in the growth of mold, mildew and other fungal growth. Furthermore, the complaint claims that Fiberon refused to repair the decks under its 20-year warranty.

A North Carolina Business Court Judge has ruled in favor of Stock Building Supply in a long-running case involving one of its window and door installers. Thompson Installation filed suit against Stock in April 2011, claiming breach of contract and unfair restraint of trade because Stock allegedly refused to let Thompson do work for any of Stock’s competitors. According to the lawsuit, the contract between the two companies was supposed to be “non-exclusive.”

Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed Roofing gave away a new car in the name of customer service, and through a promotion called "On the Road Again." 

“The ‘On the Road Again’ promotion is a way for us to show our appreciation to loyal customers like Jack Impriano,” said Jay Butch, director of contractor programs for CertainTeed Roofing.

Dallas-based Builders FirstSource announced the completion of a $160 million first-lien Term Loan financing agreement with affiliates of Highbridge Principal Strategies.

The company also announced it had entered into a standalone letter of credit facility with SunTrust Bank, which provides for the issuance of up to $20 million of letters of credit.

Founded in 1970 by an Ontario businessman, Weed Man branched into franchising in 1976. Each operation, which provides complete lawn care service (including fertilization, weed, insect and disease management, as well as aeration and seeding), is locally owned ad operated.

Wayne, N.J.-based GAF Materials Corp, the roofing and ventilation giant, is announcing improvements to its laminated shingle warranties.

Effective January 1, 2011, every GAF laminated shingle, including all Timberline shingles will be covered by a lifetime limited warranty when installed on single family residences. GAF will no longer offer any laminated shingles with just a 30-year or 40-year warranty, a first for any roofing manufacturer.

GAF pointed to its Advanced Protection technology as the basis for its lifetime warranties.
