ProBuild Holdings will close most of its operations in the Nashville market, which it serves from Smyrna, Tenn., the company has confirmed.

The Denver-based LBM chain, the nation’s largest, will continue to deliver gypsum board to its customers from its Spring Hill location outside of Nashville. But its lumber, millwork and components manufacturing businesses in Smyrna, 13 miles from Nashville, will close on Dec. 16.

Home Depot will open a new customer support call center in Kennesaw, Ga., not far from its Atlanta headquarters, in 2012. 

The story first appeared in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and was confirmed by a Home Depot spokesman yesterday. 

The customer support center will start out with 400 employees and grow to about 700 employees by 2015. It will be located in the Chastain Meadows commercial park.

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce announced that Cox Industries of Orangeburg, S.C., was named 2011 Small S.C. Manufacturer of the Year. 

Cox is a manufacturer and distributor of treated outdoor wood products for the residential, commercial, industrial and utility markets.

Winners and nominees were honored before an audience of fellow manufacturers and business leaders at the Manufacturer of the Year Awards Luncheon on Sept. 13 in Columbia.

According to an article in The Tennessean newspaper, a Mount Juliet, Tenn., store has new investors and new traffic patterns.

The Ace Hardware store in Mount Juliet closed last month after it filed for bankruptcy, according to the article. Nashville investor Steve Curnutte partnered with Tennessee Ace dealer Steve Avery to reopen the store.

According to an article in the Winston-Salem Journal, an Ace Hardware store opened last week in Ardmore, N.C., just outside of Winston-Salem. 

The 6,000 sq.-ft. store replaces a Sportsman's Supply Co., which was closed since 2008, and could reflect a positive sign for the area's retail market, according to the newspaper.

Washington, D.C. -- Chris Yenrick of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Smith Phillips Building Supply was honored Tuesday as the "Grassroots Dealer of the Year."

The award from the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) recognized Yenrick for his participation in legislative matters. The presentation was made Tuesday morning here in Washington, D.C., during the NLBMDA Legislative Conference.

Brooklyn-based MarJam Supply Co., the 2010 Home Channel News Pro Dealer of the Year, acquired the assets of seven yards in Alabama and one in Mississippi.

The company's website lists the new Alabama locations as Alexandria, Auburn, Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Pelham and Tuscaloosa. Additionally, MarJam added a unit in Gulfport, Miss.
