Honeywell's Solstice Liquid Blowing Agent, developed by West Development Group, received a high hail-resistance rating from FM Global, a business insurer.

According to the company, the blowing agent may reduce insurance premiums for building owners. It met the qualifications of FM Approvals' hail resistance test, which reviews the roof covering's ability to resist cracking, puncturing or tearing in a hail storm, as well as wind-uplift, flammability, leaks, foot traffic and corrosion.

A study by McGraw-Hill Construction indicated that architects, engineers, contractors and owners are increasingly embracing Building Information Modeling (BIM) in their building projects. Comparing results from its similar research in 2007 and 2009, McGraw-Hill Construction found that the percentage of companies using BIM jumped from 17% in 2007, to 49% in 2009, to 71% in 2012.

BlueLinx has announced that its onCENTER Engineered Lumber products are now included in the product library of MiTek's Sapphire Structure software.

With version 7.3.5 Service Pack 1, released June 28, 2012, users of Sapphire Structure can now specify onCENTER BLI Joists, onCENTER LVL and onCENTER Rim Board, and the MiTek Single Member Design Engine will analyze each member using material properties provided by BlueLinx.
