Building materials manufacturer CertainTeed has announced its intention to form a joint venture with Bailey Metal Products of Concord, Ontario, to manufacture suspended ceiling grid in Canada and the United States. Bailey Metal Products is Canada's largest lightweight steel framing manufacturer and a leading provider of drywall trims and accessories.

Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed Building Products donated to a project set to be YouthBuild Philadelphia’s first LEED Platinum-certified housing rehabilitation.

The recent rehabilitation of 4620 Greene Street benefited from CertainTeed insulation, gypsum, roofing, siding, fence and railing products -- all of which contributed to the lofty certification.

CertainTeed Corp. has announced a partnership with Custom Builders USA, a national industry buying consortium with more than 220 custom and independent builder members in 15 cities across the U.S.T he 12-month agreement provides CB/USA members with special programs and incentives for the entire line of CertainTeed WeatherBoards fiber cement siding products, including access to sales and business support.

Addressing the problem of time-consuming cleanup of drywall finishing projects, CertainTeed Gypsum is rolling out new products in the western United States.

Dust Away Reduced Airborne Dust Drywall Compound and Dust Away Renovation Mud feature innovative technology that reduces the amount of airborne dust generated through sanding by more than 70% compared with standard drywall compound.

The products were originally launched in the Canadian market in 2009.

A CertainTeed roofing plant in Shreveport, La., recently strengthened the sustainability of its operations and achieved the globally recognized ISO 14001 certification. 

Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed Roofing gave away a new car in the name of customer service, and through a promotion called "On the Road Again." 

“The ‘On the Road Again’ promotion is a way for us to show our appreciation to loyal customers like Jack Impriano,” said Jay Butch, director of contractor programs for CertainTeed Roofing.

Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed said it has achieved significant milestones in reducing the environmental impact at its 60-plus manufacturing facilities in North America.

Specifically, CertainTeed has reduced energy consumption by 15% and water usage by 24% over the past four years. In addition, it has decreased the amount of waste going to landfills from its facilities by 33%.

CalStar Products, a manufacturer of low-energy, low-CO2 masonry products, has hired Joel Rood as its new CEO. Rood has worked in the building products and materials industry for 15 years, most recently as general manager for CertainTeed Canada. He also served as general manager of the southern U.S. division at James Hardie Corp.

Rood’s previous positions also include assignments with Hilti and Schlumberger in the United States and internationally.

As part of the kickoff event of a home renovation and youth education project, Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed presented YouthBuild Schenectady with a $100,000 grant in support of the organization’s green building education and job-training program for low-income youth.

Siding 2011, organized by Principia, will kick off with a keynote speech on the future of the industry by Peter Dachowski, former CEO of Certainteed. 

In addition to the Dachowski presentation, the first day of Siding 2011 will include sessions on "Curb Appeal" and "Distribution Channel Dynamics." A panel discussion with builders and siding contractors will touch on several issues.
