Central Garden & Pet has named John Ranelli as its new president and CEO, effective Feb. 11. Ranelli has been a member of the company’s board of directors since 2010. He also sits on the board’s audit committee. Ranelli will remain on Central’s board, while current chairman and CEO Bill Brown will continue as chairman.

Sales, profits rise at Central Garden & Pet

Central Garden & Pet, a leading supplier of seeds, pottery, garden chemicals and other outdoor living products, reported net sales of $533.8 million for its third fiscal quarter, an increase of 10% from sales of $484.3 million during the same period a year ago.

Net income for the quarter, which ended June 23, totaled $22.7 million, compared with net income of $17.1 million in the third quarter of 2011.

Central Garden & Pet reported second-quarter net sales of $466.9 million, down 4% from  $485.7 million in the same period a year ago. Net income for the quarter ended March 24 totaled $21.6 million, compared with net income of $31.8 million in the second quarter of 2011.

Q1 loss widens at Central Garden & Pet

Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Central Garden & Pet posted a first-quarter net loss of $13.1 million, compared with a net loss of $9.6 million in the year-ago quarter.

Net sales for the first quarter ended Dec. 24, 2011, totaled $302.1 million, up 7% from $281.7 million in the same period a year ago.

Sales rise but profits fall at CG&P

Central Garden & Pet, a leading supplier of seeds, pottery, insecticides and other outdoor living products, reported net sales for its fourth fiscal quarter of $376.9 million, a 9% increase over the comparable period in fiscal 2010. The company's operating loss was $4.6 million for both the fourth quarter of 2011 and 2010.

Sales gains were driven by the garden products segment, which reported net sales for the quarter of $165.1 million, a gain of 24% over the fourth quarter of 2010.

CG&P consolidates supply chain management

Central Garden & Pet has announced the promotion of Paul Hibbert to senior VP supply chain. Hibbert will be responsible for all aspects of the company's consolidated supply chain operations, including manufacturing, warehousing, procurement, inventory management and distribution.  He reports to Gus Halas, president and CEO of Central Operating Companies.

The company said its sales gains were largely driven by the garden products segment, which reported sales growth of 6% for the quarter.

Central Garden & Pet, a leading supplier of seeds, pottery, insecticides and other outdoor living products, reported net sales of $485.7 million for its second fiscal quarter, an increase of 10% over sales of $441.9 million in the same period a year ago. Strong net sales growth in its garden products segment contributed significantly to the overall increase, the company said.

Central Garden & Pet has posted its first-quarter sales for 2011, reporting $282 million, an increase of 5% over the same period a year ago. The company reported a net loss of $9.6 million for the quarter, which ended on Dec. 25, 2010. This compares with a net loss of $2.9 million in the corresponding period a year ago.

Central Garden & Pet names new HR chief

Central Garden & Pet has announced the appointment of Janet Brady as senior VP, human resources, effective Feb. 7, 2011. Brady will report to William Brown, the company’s chairman and CEO.

Brady served as VP, human resources at the Clorox Co. from 1993 to 2003. She replaces Sherry Perley, VP human resources at Central Garden and Pet since Sept. 2009.
