Portland, Maine-based BlueTarp Financial named Will Porter as its new chief financial officer.

Porter brings more than 18 years of experience working with both public and private companies. Most recently, he served as the CFO at Signiant, a global software provider focusing on the transferring of digital files. Previously, Porter was the VP finance at Phase Forward, a data management solutions provider. 

It’s a relatively simple script: A large, publicly traded company finds itself over-leveraged. It enters and exits bankruptcy protection, reorganizes and emerges as a leaner, more focused company.

It’s a story that has played out many times in corporate America. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the plot. It’s never easy.

Valspar Corp. has announced the retirement of Lori Walker, the company’s senior VP and CFO. Walker joined Valspar in 2000 as assistant controller, was promoted to VP and controller in 2001, VP treasurer in 2004, and has been Valspar's CFO since 2008.

Ace Hardware has named William Guzik as the company's new chief financial officer, effective July 9. Guzik, 52, will oversee all financial-related activities, including accounting operations, financial strategy, risk management, treasury, investor relations, planning and reporting.

Sporting goods retailer Hibbett Sports hired Scott J. Bowman as CFO and senior VP. Bowman was CFO for the northern division of The Home Depot since 2006. 

Bowman also served in the role of senior director, finance and IT with the world’s largest home improvement retailer. He was with Home Depot since 2006. Prior to that, Bowman worked for The Sherwin-Williams Co.

At Birmingham, Ala.-based Hibbett, Bowman will replace Gary Smith, who is retiring. The move is effective July 9.

What does ENAP stand for? Either you know it or you don’t. The answer: “Everyone Needs A Profit.” And to Stephen Sallah, president of the New Windsor, N.Y.-based co-op, it’s anything but trivial. “As a co-op, you can’t lose money,” said Sallah, who joined ENAP as CFO in 2008 and rose to the CEO title in September. “Somehow at the end of the day, you have to be able to return something in the black back to the dealers.” ENAP has done that, he said.

Manufacturer Kleer Lumber has announced the appointment of Tom Demers as its first chief financial officer. Demers is a charter employee of Kleer Lumber, and previously served as the company’s VP finance. In his new role, Demers will focus on improving operational efficiencies and service levels and will strive to maintain Kleer’s competitive position for its expanding customer base. He reports directly to company president and CEO Walt Valentine.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced a settlement with the former chief financial officer of Beazer Homes USA to recover his bonus compensation and stock sale profits from the period when the Atlanta-based home builder was committing accounting fraud, according to an Aug. 30 announcement. 

Whirlpool has announced that Roy Templin, EVP and CFO, will retire from the company. As part of the planned transition, Templin will remain in his current capacity until April 2012 to complete Whirlpool's year-end reporting and other transitional items. At that time, Larry Venturelli -- currently SVP corporate controller, chief accounting officer and CFO for Whirlpool International -- will succeed Templin as EVP and CFO.

Dorvin Lively, the former chief financial officer and executive VP of Ace Hardware, has been hired at RadioShack as the company’s CFO, chief administrative officer and executive VP, effective immediately. 

Lively, 53, left the Oak Brook, Ill, buying group on Aug. 10. He joined Ace in March 2008 as senior VP and CFO and was promoted to executive VP in December 2010.
