Piscataway, New Jersey-based American Standard Brands President and CEO Jay Gould was appointed to the board of directors of American Standard’s parent company, LIXIL Corporation.

Gould joined American Standard Brands in January 2012. 

Over the course of the next 18 months, according to the company’s announcement, Gould executed a plan that quadrupled the company's EBITA, grew sales by 10 percent and improved gross margins by 700 basis points.

Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Corporation made some updates to its corporate board of directors, not the least of which includes the planned appointment of Jim Ackroyd as chairman.

Ackroyd is the CEO of Vision Ace Hardware, an 11-store chain in southwest Florida. He was named vice chairman last year as part of a planned changeover within the chairman position. As a member of Ace's board since 2008, he was also re-elected to another three-year term as a member director.

Jane Blain Gilbertson assumed the role of CEO and sole owner of Blain Supply and Blain’s Farm and Fleet, taking over from her brother Robert Blain who will retire June 25. 

Janesville, Wisconsin-based Blain’s Farm and Fleet was founded in 1955 and operates 35 farm and ranch locations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. The company employs about 4,000.

Lumber Liquidators has taken some steps in the aftermath of the investigation it underwent last fall after an environmental advocacy group leveled chargers against the retailer, claiming it was knowingly sourcing wood from protected forests.

Among those steps is the formalization of its compliance and sustainability team, the members of which it announced on Tuesday.

Not that no one saw it coming, but Louisiana-Pacific Corporation and Ainsworth Lumber Co. have officially terminated their acquisition bid after months of regulatory delays.

In a joint statement released Wednesday, the companies explained that they could not obtain regulatory approval without lengthy and expensive litigation with U.S. and Canadian regulatory authorities.

Cemex CEO Lorenzo Zambrano, who is credited with turning his family's business into Mexico's first sprawling multinational company, has died unexpectedly at age 70.

Zambrano was on a business trip in Madrid and was said to have died of natural causes on Monday, according to multiple media reports.

Zambrano is famous for his role in globalizing the company and putting Mexico on the map as a competitive force, drawing both admirers of his ambition and critics of his competition-squashing tactics.
