Ace Hardware Corp.’s paint program is going through a major makeover with Valspar stepping up as a supplier and taking over the co-op’s paint manufacturing facilities. 

Ace and Valspar announced a long-term deal, under which Valspar will manufacture and supply Ace-branded paint products to Ace dealers. The companies also announced that Valspar has acquired Ace Hardware’s paint manufacturing assets, including two manufacturing facilities located near Chicago.

Less than a year after purchasing it in a hostile takeover, International Paper (IP) has agreed to sell its Temple-Inland Building Products division to Georgia-Pacific for $750 million in cash, subject to certain pre-and post-closing adjustments. The assets to be sold include16 manufacturing facilities: five solid wood mills, four particleboard plants, two medium-density fiberboard plants, one fiberboard plant and four gypsum wallboard plants.

Eco Building Products (ECOB) has signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding with CorWorth, a Texas limited liability company and its affiliates, including Restroom Facilities and others. This formal agreement between ECOB and CorWorth represent an exclusive nationwide marketing and sales arrangement for a limited scope use, and provides a niche market use of ECOB's protected lumber, logo and product identity.

LG Electronics and Whirlpool Corp. have agreed to settle their respective patent infringement disputes related to refrigerators, ending years of litigation between the two companies. Three pending lawsuits will be dismissed in the U.S. District Courts in Delaware and New Jersey, according to the announcement. All other terms of the settlement are confidential.

True Value Co. has signed a long-term agreement with Alliance Data Systems Corp. to create and manage turnkey private label, co-brand and commercial credit card programs.

The co-brand credit card program is Alliance Data's first Discover card product to utilize the Discover network and its millions of merchant locations. All credit card accounts will be consistent with Alliance Data's traditional credit quality standards.

Epicor Software Corporation and True Value Co. announced the continuation of an agreement naming Epicor as True Value's recommended Epicor Eagle point-of-sale (POS) solution provider. 

This three-year agreement provides more of True Value's retailers the opportunity to benefit from Epicor solutions, according to the companies.

QEP Co, a worldwide manufacturer, marketer and distributor of hardwood flooring, flooring installation tools, adhesives and flooring-related products, signed a letter of intent to acquire Imperial Industries.

Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Imperial Industries, maker and distributor of exterior building products, said it received a line of credit up to $500,000 from QEP.

Georgia-Pacific Wood Products and Sherwood Lumber Co. have announced a new distribution agreement involving GP's full line of engineered wood products (EWP). The two companies have finalized terms that will provide for Sherwood Lumber to supply its dealers with a complete line of Georgia-Pacific engineered wood products, including Wood I Beam joists, GP Lam laminated veneer lumber (LVL), FiberStrong rim board and laminated beams.

The Home Depot and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia extended their agreement to offer Martha Stewart Living branded products in The Home Depot's 2,000-plus stores through March 2016.

The agreement also calls for an expansion of products offered. 

The Martha Stewart Living line, launched in January 2010, is available in categories such as interior and project paint, outdoor furniture, kitchen cabinetry, carpeting and bath vanities.  The new agreement will include these categories plus a new craft furniture line as well as a broader array of holiday merchandise.

John Donahoe, president and CEO of eBay, during a Jan. 18 earnings call expanded on the test of PayPal with retailer Home Depot. 

A division of EBay, PayPal is experimenting with extending its on-line payment system to point-of-sale retail locations. In the fourth quarter of 2011, it chose Home Depot as its first national retailer for a limited test at five stores. PayPal plans to widen the pilot to 51 stores in the Bay Area by the end of the month, Donahoe said.

He explained to investors how the payment process worked by relating his own experience.

Speaking to Ace Hardware dealers at the co-op's 2011 Fall Convention & Exhibits in Denver, Ace's John Surane clarified Ace's agreement with Sears regarding Craftsman and exclusivity.

"Our agreement gives Ace the exclusive rights to sell the craftsman brand in the convenience hardware channel until the year 2015," Surane told dealers during the General Session in Denver. He added the deal does not prohibit Sears, which owns the Craftsman brand, from selling to big-box retailers or the mass merchants.

AZEK Building Products, a manufacturer of PVC-based molding, trim and decking, has entered into a strategic alliance with VAST Enterprises, a maker of composite masonry products. Under the agreement, AZEK Building Products has purchased an interest in VAST and will make the VAST brand available to AZEK's distribution network. AZEK and VAST will collaborate on sales and marketing initiatives to drive brand awareness among architects and contractors, according to the announcement.

Los Angeles-based home builder KB Home and Newhall Land have announced a land purchase agreement in the West Hills Village in Valencia, Calif. KB Home acquired 43 finished lots from Newhall Land and will begin construction on a new community in June.

The homes will be energy efficient and will include solar power systems. KB Home has also announced plans to open 10 communities in Southern California; all of the homes will be built with photovoltaic solar systems.

Jeld-Wen has sold part of its Yakima, Wash., vinyl extrusion plant to Quanex Building Products, according to an article in the Portland Business Journal. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 

Quanex is a longtime business partner of Jeld-Wen. Quanex’s Mikron operation will purchase equipment and other assets from Jeld-Wen’s extrusion operation.

(LMC) have announced an expansion of their 20-year marketing relationship, which will offer the building materials co-op access to the Activant Eagle system and the Activant Catalyst platform. More than half of LMC’s 360 members run their businesses on Activant Solutions, according to the announcement.

Vista, Calif.-based EcoBlu Products announced today that the company has signed an agreement with Newstar Holdings for the use of its Hartindo AF21 Fire Inhibitor formulation.

Under the terms of the agreement EcoBlu is granted the rights to blend and purchase AF21 Fire Inhibitor concentrates for inclusion in the company's WoodSurfaceFilm treatment. The agreement will hold an initial term of five years and allow the company to distribute the product worldwide.
