A grant agreement between the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and Chinese company Midea will see Honeywell work to reduce the impact Midea's refrigerators and freezers have on the environment.

Honeywell will work with Midea, which manufactures appliances, to put its line of Solstice products into wider use. The main Solstice product that Midea will use is Honeywell's Liquid Blowing Agent, which expands insulation in appliances and has a lower global warming potential than more widely-used agents.

AZEK, Home Depot and OrePac all teamed up Thursday, June 19th to help spruce up a garden for disabled vets in San Bernardino, California.

The Veterans Exploration Garden in Speicher Memorial Park received a new AZEK Paver walkway (which is made with 95% recycled materials) for smoother wheelchair access.

Both sides of a West Coast labor dispute are entering extra time as the contract between the Pacific Maritime Association and the International Long Shore and Warehouse Union officially expired June 30.

As expected, both sides are negotiating in an effort to avoid the economic damage from a costly strike on the docks that, according to a recent study, could cost as much as $2.5 billion per day.

The pending deal between Ainsworth Lumber and Louisiana-Pacific has been put off further by new timing agreements with the Canadian Competition Bureau and the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ainsworth and LP have both agreed that they will not consummate the acquisition before March 13, giving federal regulators time to continue their reviews. As a result, the companies have extended the outside date for completion from March 4 to April 18.

Lowe's has teamed up with State Farm to help give consumers greater access to its proprietary cloud-based platform, Iris, a DIY safety and security home management system.

Specficially, State Farm will be offering its customers special promotions on the Iris Safe and Secure kit and the Iris Smart Home kit. Some qualifying customers will receive discounts on their home insurance as well.

Iris allows users to monitor and control smoke alarms, water sensors and more using a smart phone, PC or tablet. It also notifies users of possible water leaks or fires.

Valspar has agreed to provide its Aquaguard waterborne coating for Maersk Container Industry's shipping containers via a long-term supply agreement.

“Maersk is a global leader in container-industry sustainability, and we are privileged to partner with them on this innovative coatings solution,” said Roeland Polet, Valspar SVP, Global Industrial. “This is an important step, and we proudly put our 60-plus years of waterborne coatings expertise forward as a cost-effective, sustainable solution.”

Tri Pointe Homes, Inc. is merging with Weyerhaeuser Co.'s homebuilding business in a deal worth $2.7 billion, pending approval from Tri Pointe shareholders.

Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Co. will become a Tri Pointe subsidiary, with 80.5% ownership of the combined company to be distributed to Weyerhaeuser's shareholders. Pre-transaction Tri Pointe shareholders will own the remaining 19.5%.

The transaction doesn't include all Weyerhaeuser Real Estate assets, however; those remaining will be kept by Weyerhaeuser.

USG Corporation announced its 50/50 joint venture with Boral Limited, to be named USG Boral Building Products, as part of a strategic move to synergistically blend their branding, geographic impact and expertise in the burgeoning plasterboard market in Asia, Australasia and the Middle East.

The venture will include Boral's Gypsum division, which includes its plasterboard operations in Australia and Asia, as well as USG's Asian and Middle Eastern businesses. Additionally, USG will contribute exclusive access to its competitive products and technologies.

Georgia-Pacific and U.S. Lumber have announced they are entering a distribution agreement for engineered wood products (EWP).     The agreement, effective Nov. 1, 2013, provides for U.S. Lumber to distribute Georgia-Pacific engineered lumber in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, the panhandle of Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Both companies are based in Atlanta.

Paint giant Valspar has every intention of profiting from its move to acquire the Ace Hardware private-label paint business, it just hasn't happened yet.

Valspar executives walked analysts through the plan during the company's third-quarter conference call. The analysts seemed highly interested in Valspar's seven-month-old relationship with Ace.

Ace Hardware Corp.’s paint program is going through a major makeover with Valspar stepping up as a supplier and taking over the co-op’s paint manufacturing facilities. 

Ace and Valspar announced a long-term deal, under which Valspar will manufacture and supply Ace-branded paint products to Ace dealers. The companies also announced that Valspar has acquired Ace Hardware’s paint manufacturing assets, including two manufacturing facilities located near Chicago.

Less than a year after purchasing it in a hostile takeover, International Paper (IP) has agreed to sell its Temple-Inland Building Products division to Georgia-Pacific for $750 million in cash, subject to certain pre-and post-closing adjustments. The assets to be sold include16 manufacturing facilities: five solid wood mills, four particleboard plants, two medium-density fiberboard plants, one fiberboard plant and four gypsum wallboard plants.
