The company joins Lyman Lumber Co., a US LBM division that is one of the largest building material suppliers in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Bailey Metal Products is Canada's largest lightweight steel framing manufacturer and a leading provider of drywall trims and accessories.

Pacific Northwest pro dealer Parr Lumber has partnered with Smart Vent Products, a provider of flood mitigation products. Smart Vent protects buildings from the devastation and destruction that hurricanes, floods or other natural disasters can cause through its line of automatic foundation flood vents. These products are certified by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and accepted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Each standard model is certified for 200 sq. ft. of flood coverage per unit.

Home Depot Canada held its annual "Meet the Buyer" day in Toronto on Nov. 7, an event that brought 22 small and medium manufacturers from Quebec and Ontario face-to-face with the retailer’s merchants.  Now in its third year, Meet the Buyer is a partnership between The Home Depot Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation, and the Quebec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade.

The Toro Co. has announced a partnership with Yanmar America Corp. Yanmar will provide diesel engines for select Toro commercial turf maintenance equipment. The Yanmar diesel engines will allow Toro to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 4 emissions regulations, which go into effect Jan. 1, 2013.

The first Toro products to feature Yanmar's Tier 4 compliant diesel engine technology will be select commercial mowers over 25 horsepower.

Green Energy Renewable Solutions has entered into a joint venture with eCycling USA to expand its Construction & Demolition Debris (C&D) deconstruction plans to include electronic and whiteware waste using a proprietary system developed in Germany. ECycling USA has already partnered with the German firm, called Adelman Umwelt GmbH, to implement 100 electronic waste (e-waste) demanufacturing and materials reclamation sites across the United States. Adelman currently has 60 plants operating throughout Europe.

Two of the building industry’s largest manufacturers are collaborating on a new ceiling system designed for use in commercial applications. USG Corp. will offer its Logix Integrated Ceiling System with GE Lumination’s LED Linear Recessed Luminaires. The system is ideal for office, retail, healthcare and hospitality environments, the two companies said.

Boise, Idaho-based BMC is rolling out a suite of enterprise mobile apps called “BMC 2 Go” that will transform sales and operations business processes, making employees more mobile, productive and effective through high-value Apple iPhone and iPad applications.

Boston-based tech firm Apperian partnered with BMC to provide its Enterprise App Services Environment (EASE) as the iOS app management platform to deploy and manage mobile applications for its nationwide network of sales and operations personnel.

Paint Sundries Solutions, Inc (PSS) has partnered with Lumbermens Merchandising Corp. (LMC), a leading forest products and building materials buying group.

PSS is a full-service distributor of brand name paint-related products headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., with distribution centers in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Dallas. 

In the central and western United States, PSS will offer premium products along with market expertise, according to the press release announcing the move.

The Toro Co. has partnered with Ryan Cos. to build a 450,000-sq.-ft. distribution center near Des Moines, Iowa. Toro will lease the facility from Ryan once construction is completed later this year. Toro will then transition distribution operations from its current facilities in Lakeville, Minn., and Beatrice, Neb., to the Des Moines facility.

The story reminded me of my Uncle Jerry, proprietor of an independent store stuffed with hardware SKUs and located in South Newfane, Vt.

Atlanta building products distributor BlueLinx has announced an agreement with Weyerhaeuser to become the independent distributor of Weyerhaeuser's engineered wood products in New England, including Trus Joist, TJI joist, TimberStrand LSL, Microllam LVL, Parallam PSL and TJ Rim board. The agreement is effective Feb. 13, 2012.

Because of this membership and training program, Lowe's employees who work in the kitchen cabinets, countertops and fashion plumbing departments and as interior project specialists will have the opportunity to earn NKBA certifications.
