St. Louis-based Huttig Building Products hired Bob Kern Sr. as the new territory manager to cover southern New Jersey from the Huttig Wilkes-Barre branch in Pennsylvania. 

Kern has more than 20 years of experience in the building materials industry. He started his career with Peter Lumber Company in Pleasantville, New Jersey, where he was the operations manager for many years. Most recently, Kern was territory manager with Milliken Millwork.

Klein Tools has introduced a new line of Combination-Tip Drivers for use in electrical applications.

Georgia-Pacific is investing $37 million in its Gurdon, Arkansas, lumber operations, which will see a lumber mill expansion of about 60%.

Indianapolis -- Do it Best Corp. distributed more than a $100 million in member rebates during the co-op's annual shareholders meeting Sunday night. 

It was the 11th consecutive year of $100 million-plus rebates, and another chance for CEO Bob Taylor to present his state-of-the company report -- emphasis on members growing their business and overcoming challenges.

EG Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company doing business as Scotts LawnService, has agreed to acquire Midwestern company Action Pest Control, Inc.

The deal marks Scotts' first acquisition of a home pest control business, though not its first foray into the market. Scotts LawnService has been operating a pest business in Florida under the Ortho brand for over a year now.

The strategy involves positioning Scotts LawnService, which the company says is currently No. 2 in lawn service, as a one-stop shop for lawn and pest control needs.

Eagle Materials has agreed to acquire CRS Proppants LLC and its subsidiaries, including Great Northern Sand LLC, a supplier of northern-white frac-sand to the energy industry.

The acquisition, which comes at a cash purchase price of approximately $225 million, will add to Eagle's existing stake in the frac-sand market and double its frac-sand production capacity.

Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries’ third-quarter sales and earnings growth were aided by new technologies and North American economic expansion, said CEO Charles Bunch. 

The company reported third-quarter net sales from continuing operations of $3.94 billion, up 4%. Net income was $377 million, up from $226 million in the year-ago period.

Starts rebounded in September, jumping 6.3% above August's upwardly revised rate to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,017,000.

Meanwhile, single-family housing starts came in at a rate of 646,000, or 1.1% above August's revised figure of 639,000.

Pro-sales lumber and building materials dealer TW Perry has opened the doors to its newly expanded Springfield store and office space, which now boasts a new showroom.

The Springfield location is now more than double the size of the original, with the office space moved up to a new second floor, complete with a conference room for meetings.

The 3,800-sq-.ft showroom features a range of windows, doors, moulding profiles, decking and architectural millwork on display from the TW Perry custom millshop.

According to WD-40 Company president and CEO Garry Ridge, the fourth quarter of 2014 had its ups and downs. However, it marked the best quarter in history for the company in terms of revenue.

"We had a good quarter and a good year and are pleased we have been able to maintain sustainable growth across our core business globally," said Ridge. "While we saw both positive and negative impacts from changes in foreign currency exchange rates, we had local currency growth across key markets and the fourth quarter was our highest revenue quarter in history."
