Around the Web: 84 Lumber consolidates in Tennessee
(Feb.

84 Lumber has closed its Franklin, Tenn., store, 16 miles outside of Nashville, after evaluating its performance, according to an article in The Tennessean. A spokesman for the privately held pro dealer told the newspaper that the company’s lumberyards in Murfreesboro and Hendersonville, located 29 and 13 miles from the Nashville metro area, respectively, would remain open.
Building projects in Williamson County are at their lowest level in 20 years, according to The Tennessean. The number of construction permits issued in Franklin fell from 6,735 in 2008 to 3,460 in 2009. That includes permits issued for new homes and commercial buildings, as well as electrical, plumbing and mechanical work. The number of new home permits issued throughout the county last year was 625.
The Franklin store, set on a 15.8-acre lot, was owned by 84 Lumber and will be offered up for sale for $5.7 million, the newspaper reported. That includes a 20,458-sq.-ft. showroom, 20,000-sq.-ft. storage building and three large storage sheds.
The unit was one of seven 84 Lumber locations that opened in 2003. At that time, 84 Lumber operated 24 locations in Tennessee. Today, 84 Lumber has 12 stores in Tennessee.
