Carol Tome named Atlanta Fed chair

Carol Tome, executive VP and chief financial officer of Home Depot, has been named chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s board of directors. Her one-year term begins Jan. 1, 2010.
Tome, who will maintain her duties with Home Depot, has been a member of Atlanta's federal reserve board since January 2008.
The board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta oversees the management of the bank's operations and recommends changes in the discount rate. Board members also contribute to the formulation of U.S. monetary policy through the economic information they provide the bank's president.
