Global DIY Summit: Pat Farrah honored

The first Global DIY Summit held in Brussels, Belgium, in early June was attended by 400 home improvement executives, representing 32 countries. Jack Truong, VP and general manager of 3M, introduced Pat Farrah as the Global DIY Lifetime Award honoree.

Pat Farrah, co-founder of The Home Depot, received the first Global DIY Lifetime Award, presented by the European DIY Retail Association (EDRA), the Global Home Improvement Network and the Federation of European DIY Manufacturer's Association. Farrah was also the 2010 inductee of the Home Channel Hall of Fame.

Pat Farrah's acceptance speech highlighted the early days of big-box development and stressed the importance of "looking after customers." According to the EDRA's John Herbert: "The standing ovation at the end seemed to go on forever."
