Members of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) descended on Washington, D.C., this week to promote dealer interests.
The three-day event begins in earnest Tuesday, with "Lobbying 101" instruction for dealers followed by legislative briefings and visits with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Providing the direction for the event is the recently published NLBMDA 2011 Policy Agenda.
"From health care and taxes to environmental regulation, the government has imposed costly burdens on the building supply industry that impair our ability to weather the housing downturn," wrote NLBMDA chairman and Ferguson Lumber president Joe Collings, in the agenda's introduction. "We look forward to working with Congress to review and roll back regulatory red tape and to pass common-sense, pro-growth policies that will put the building supply industry and our national economy back on the path to recovery."
Tuesday's NLBMDA Legislative Conference agenda includes presentations from Indiana Congressman Mike Pence, and Fox News anchor Bret Baier.
