Akzo Nobel, the international paint and coatings giant that acquired ICI Paints late last year, has appointed Tex Gunning as head of Akzo’s decorative paints division, which includes the company’s U.S. and European residential paints business.
Gunning, a Dutch citizen, is former CEO and chairman of the board for Vedior, a Dutch staffing agency. He has also served in various senior executive spots at European conglomerate Unilever.
"Tex's deep background in the management of consumer brands and businesses will enable us to build on the vast reservoir of expertise that we have brought together following the acquisition of ICI's paints businesses," Akzo Nobel's chief executive Hans Wijers said in a statement.
Gunning will succeed David Hamill, who is set to leave the company by the end of the year, “having played a major role in the process of combining the ICI and Akzo Nobel paints businesses.” Hamill formerly served as CEO of ICI Paints. “The company would like to place on record its thanks to Mr. Hamill for his valuable contribution,” read a statement from Akzo Nobel.
